Flowers For Luck

Whether you want to bring some luck into your own life or send some to somebody who needs it, there are a few flowers that would be good to add to your bouquet for that touch of good luck.  I’m sure that anyone who is facing some kind of exam would appreciate all the help they can get and a couple of newly weds would love something to get their new lives together off to a good start.  Bare in mind the flowers associated with luck and then check with your local or online florist about having one or more of these flowers included in your bouquet.

Along with rabbit feet, four-leaf clovers are just as well known for their reputation of bringing luck.  They are actually the leaves of white clover flowers.  A grouping of three is easy to find and is said to represent the Holy Trinity while four leaves are less common and said to represent God’s grace.  With a ratio of about 10 000 three-leaf to 1 four-leaf clover, it’s easy to understand why they are associated with luck.

If you don’t have the time to sit in a field of clovers, however, you could always add some Bells of Ireland to the arrangement instead.  Despite the name, they are in fact from Indonesia and were given their name due to their green , bell-shaped leaves.  They have become popular as part of arrangements for St Patrick’s Day and weddings too.

In a practical sense, white heather is used as a treatment for arthritis.  As far as as luck is concerned, this flower has been associated to luck since the 1800s.  It was believed to grow over the graves of fairies.  They were also worn by soldiers going into battle as a form of protection.  It is said that white heather will not grow where blood has been shed.

Larkspur, more commonly known as Delphinium is said to be named after Delphi, a sacred temple dedicated to the sun god, Apollo.  It was considered a great blessing to be in favour of Apollo.  The root of this plant was also used in England to make love potions.

Oriental arrangements often include bamboo as foliage.  Bamboo is considered lucky due to its rapid growing and resistant nature.  They are considered most lucky when received as a gift.  Next time you send flowers, send a feng shui design that includes bamboo.

In Mexico, people carry a sprig of Basil in their pockets to attract money while in India, they place it in their cash registers to attract customers.  India actually considers Basil to be a sacred herb and it is often given to new home owners to bring them luck.  Basil is also very easy to grow and has many uses in your kitchen so even if you don’t believe in luck, you can still enjoy its contribution to your meals.
